CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's basketball team did not look like the ninth-ranked team in the nation over the first 20 minutes, but the Mustangs got it going in the second half and won their seventh straight, 92-79, over Iowa Wesleyan in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Tigers (7-12) led by as many as 10 points in the first period but settled for a 46-40 advantage at intermission. It was all Mount Mercy after the break, however, as the Mustangs shot 51.5 percent from the floor and went 13-of-18 at the free throw line while outscoring Iowa Wesleyan, 52-33.

Chad Underwood has been on a tear, and that continued on Saturday. The senior forward tied a career-high with 31 points on 12-of-16 shooting and also tallied four rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. He is averaging 27.3 points and five boards over his last four games while shooting 67.8 percent from the field (40-of-59) and 62.5 percent from 3-point range (15-of-24). Underwood has also made all 14 of his free throws over that span.

Underwood got plenty of help against the Tigers. Three more Mustangs reached double figures, including senior forward Alex Coleman and junior guard Bobby Sherwood with 12 points each and senior guard Lamar Wall with 11 points. Junior forward LaDon Singleton almost made it there, too, scoring nine points to go with seven rebounds. Coleman and senior guard Sid Beck grabbed eight boards apiece. Beck dished out six assists, Sherwood five.

Kyle Warner carried the load for the Tigers offensively, finishing with 28 points. Derrick Nillissen chipped in 10 points, Cam Sanchez and Will Stephenson nine each. Sanchez also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while Jon Umoren handed out eight assists.

Mount Mercy (18-2, 3-0 MCC) has finished up the non-conference portion of its schedule and jumps back into league play on Wednesday. The Mustangs head to Des Moines to take on Grand View (7-7, 2-1 MCC) at 7:30 p.m. at Sisam Arena.
