DES MOINES, Iowa -- Seventh-ranked Mount Mercy built a 20-point halftime lead and coasted to its eighth straight win, a 69-53 victory over Grand View in Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball on Wednesday at Sisam Arena.

The Mustangs (19-2, 4-0 MCC) knocked down five 3-pointers in the opening period while the Vikings (7-8, 2-2 MCC) went 0-for-7 from beyond the arc. Mount Mercy led, 37-17, at intermission and by as many as 25 early in the second half while staying unbeaten in conference play.

Despite its lowest point total in 11 games, Mount Mercy got another balanced effort, led by senior guard Lamar Wall. He finished with four 3-pointers during an 18-point night. Senior forward Alex Coleman had 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Bobby Sherwood added 12 points and seven assists, senior forward Chad Underwood 10 points and five boards.

Jordan Gentry of Grand View scored a game-high 20 points. Kody Ingle chipped in 11 points. Malaki Wills pulled down six rebounds while Ingle, Mitch Fondell and Tayler Bontrager grabbed four boards each.

Mount Mercy hosts MCC co-leader and second-ranked William Penn on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. It's the first top-10 match up ever to be hosted at Hennessey Recreation Center.
