DAVENPORT, Iowa -- St. Ambrose scored the first 10 points of the game, led by 17 at the break and never looked back in a 76-63 victory over the Mount Mercy women's basketball team in a Midwest Collegiate Conference contest on Wednesday at Lee Lohman Arena.
The Queen Bees (18-5, 5-3 MCC) shot 60 percent from the floor in the opening period and 53.4 percent for the game while outrebounding the Mustangs (6-18, 3-5 MCC), 39-27. Mount Mercy collected 15 steals and forced 22 turnovers but couldn't overcome 40.4 percen shooting.
Senior guard Brooke Quigley scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed four rebounds for the Mustangs. Junior forward Amanda Frost added 11 points and three steals. Sophomore guard Danielle Herdliska and freshman guard Makenzie Zeitler had nine points each. Zeitler also tallied five boards and five steals.
Samantha Saladino and Katie Jensen each posted double-doubles for St. Ambrose. Saladino finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Jensen 16 points and 10 boards. Lauren Cash chipped in 15 points, Ashley Dexter eight points and four steals.
Mount Mercy, which came into tonight's match up with consecutive wins for the first time this season, is off this weekend before hosting Clarke on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Crusaders edged the Mustangs, 63-61, on Jan. 9 in Dubuque.
