LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Mount Mercy men's bowling team jumped four spots on day two and earned a berth in the xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships with a fourth-place finish at a sectional qualifier this weekend at Texas Station.

The Intercollegiate Team Championships field of 16 men's and 16 women's teams was determined at four sectional qualifying sites. Mount Mercy, in just its second season of competitive bowling, will make its first appearance at the national championship event on April 18-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.

The Mustang men were eighth after Saturday's opening round with 6,122 pins. They kept climbing the ladder on Sunday, eventually surpassing four teams with a final pin total of 12,534. West Texas A&M (12,860 pins), Midland (12,670) and Fresno State (12,614) also made it out of the Vegas sectional.

Notre Dame-Ohio won the Allentown, Pa., sectional with 12,963 pins. Morehead State, William Patterson and Webber International also qualified there. In Smyrna, Tenn., McKendree was your men's winner with 12,836 pins, followed by Lindenwood, Marian and Florida State. Robert Morris dominated the Fairview Heights, Ill., sectional with 13,309 pins. Calumet, St. Ambrose and William Penn also moved on.

The Mount Mercy women's bowling team finished ninth in Las Vegas with 10,904 pins. The four women's qualifiers from Texas Station included Wichita State (12,707 pins), Maryland-Eastern Shore (12,308), Stephen F. Austin (11,888) and Midland (11,796).
