OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Junior right-hander Catie Flaucher and freshman catcher Whitney Matlack, who both helped Mount Mercy extend its winning streak to eight games, have been named the Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 15.

It's the first such honor for both players. Flaucher was 2-0 with a save and didn't allow an earned run in 11 1/3 innings for the Mustangs. She struck out eight and walked just one batter while giving up eight hits. Flaucher was the winning pitcher in both victories over William Penn on Sunday and is now 9-6 on the season with a 1.36 earned run average.

Matlack, who leads the Mustangs with a .439 average, saw action in three of Mount Mercy's four games last week, batting .500 (4-for-8) with a pair of home runs, five runs scored and three runs batted in. She capped off the week with two homers, three runs scored and three RBIs in the Mustangs' 7-3 victory in a sweep of the Lady Statesmen on Sunday.

Mount Mercy (18-11, 6-3 MCC) hosts league-leading Grand View (15-18, 8-3 MCC) on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Tomahawk Park in Cedar Rapids.
