OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women claimed eight titles and Jenna Higgins had a hand in five of them as the senior all-American was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
St. Ambrose won the team championship with 244 points. Mount Mercy was runner-up with 228 points, followed by Grand View (199), William Penn (94), Clarke (71) and Viterbo (Wis.) (7).
Higgins, the MCC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year this winter, won four individual championships and teamed up with freshman Maryann Dike and seniors Larissa Wilden and Mwale Kapande to win the 4x100 meter relay. She finished first in the 100 meters (:12.09), 200 meters (:25.26), 100 meter hurdles (:14.82) and the javelin (38.71m). The time in the 100 meter hurdles was a meet record.
All-Americans Wilden and Kapande earned individual crowns as well. Wilden set a meet record while winning the high jump and Kapande took the long jump title (5.61m). Freshman Liz Mosbach, senior Shelby Daisy and freshmen Allison Scott and Dana Ewan brought home the 4x800 meter relay championship in 9:52.63.
A last chance qualifier is all that remains before the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 22-25 in Marion, Ind.
