OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's soccer team is picked second and the Mustang women are predicted to finish fourth in the official Midwest Collegiate Conference preseason coaches' polls, the league announced this week.
Grand View is favored to defend their conference title, sitting at No. 1 in the men's soccer coaches' poll with all seven first-place votes and 49 total points. Mount Mercy, runner-up last year, is second with 39 points, followed by St. Ambrose (31 pts.), AIB (30), William Penn (18), Clarke (16) and Viterbo (Wis.) (13).
On the women's side, Viterbo is also expected to earn their second straight MCC championship. They're followed in the preseason poll by Grand View, St. Ambrose, Mount Mercy, AIB, William Penn and Clarke.
Mount Mercy will be the first team to take the field in men's and women's action. The Mustangs travel to Notre Dame, Ind., on Thursday, Aug. 22, for a women's match against Holy Cross (Ind.) at 4:00 p.m. The Mount Mercy men open the season at Dordt on Friday, Aug. 23, at 3:30 p.m. in Sioux Center.
