OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- Mount Mercy men's soccer players Josip Druzijanic and Harrison Burgess and women's goalkeeper Elizabeth Steffe earned the first Midwest Collegiate Conference player of the week awards of the season, the league announced today.
Druzijanic, a senior forward, and Burgess, a senior goalkeeper, were named the MCC men's soccer offensive and defensive players of the week. Druzijanic converted a penalty kick in the fourth minute of a 1-0 victory at Dordt and Burgess stopped three shots to preserve the shutout.
Steffe, a freshman saved 14 shots on Mount Mercy's season-opening road trip. She posted six shots in her collegiate debut, a 3-2 overtime win at Holy Cross (Ind.), then had eight saves in a 2-1 loss at Roosevelt (Ill.).
