CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy cross country programs brought home some hardware this weekend, claiming the Coe-Stang Trophy after winning the inaugural Five Seasons Dual against intra-city rival Coe on Saturday at Morgan Creek.
Mount Mercy sophomore Liz Mosbach covered the three-mile course in 19:11 to win the women's race. Maddie Bain of Coe was runner-up in 19:34. All seven Mustangs placed in the top 10, including senior Anne Bruno (3rd/19:35), junior Eveline Niyokwizigigwa (4th/19:44), senior Mackenzie Holladay (6th/19:52), freshman Katie Hoffert (7th/20:05), senior Wendi Dunn (8th/20:15) and sophomore Dana Ewan (9th/20:20).
Mustang senior TJ Mosbach won the men's four-mile race in 21:34. Coe's Shea Devine was next in 21:51, followed by Mount Mercy junior Tyler Hartley (3rd/22:13) and freshman Evan Bowman (4th/22:35). Senior Mitch Johnson (7th/23:10), senior Andre Moodie (9th/23:36), freshman Tyler Steele (10th/23:39) and sophomore Erik Ryan (11th/24:16) rounded out the Mustang roster.
The winner of the Coe-Stang Trophy went to the overall winner after combining the men's and women's team scores. Mount Mercy defeated Coe, 21-40, on the women's side and 24-33 in men's action. The final tally had the Mustangs out-pointing the Kohawks, 45-73.
Mount Mercy races at the Viking Invitational hosted by Grand View on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Ewing Park in Des Moines.
