RIVERSIDE, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's golf team picked up its first win of the fall season on Tuesday, claiming the Mustang "36" Challenge at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.
The event, hosted by Mount Mercy, featured 36 holes of golf in one day. The Mustangs edged Grand View, 599-601, for the team title. Iowa Western (606) was third, followed by AIB (618), Viterbo (Wis.) (641) and Iowa Wesleyan (642).
Lucas Boyd of AIB was medalist with an even-par 144 total. Junior Jacob Selander of Mount Mercy and Jose Pelayo of Iowa Western tied for second place at 146. Selander had the low round for the tournament, a 3-under 69 during the first 18 holes.
Junior Matt Schlueter (77-73=150) tied for sixth for the Mustangs. Senior Ryan Schrimper (74-77=151) was 10th, junior Jack South (79-73=152) tied for 11th and sophomore Jamie Booth (82-78=160) tied for 17th in a field of 30 golfers.
On Monday and Tuesday, Mount Mercy is at the Ashford Invitational at Short Hills Country Club in Clinton.
