CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior forward Danielle Herdliska scored two second-half goals and freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Steffe stopped 10 shots to lead the Mount Mercy women's soccer team to a 2-1 league victory over William Penn on Saturday at Lower Kingston Field.
The Mustangs and Lady Statesmen were scoreless after a rainy first period. Herdliska headed in a corner kick by junior midfielder Taylor Eaker that put Mount Mercy on the board in the 52nd minute. Penn's Jaymie Padilla evened the match 11 minutes later, then it was Herdliska with a nicely-placed header over keeper Laura Gentry. The game-winner was the result of a free kick by junior midfielder Megan Konchar in the 85th minute.
The Mustangs (3-7-0, 1-0-0 MCC) are at Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
