QUINCY, Ill. -- Jordan Sergi of Culver-Stockton (Mo.) broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 85th minute and Wildcats held off Mount Mercy, 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match on Wednesday.
Due to field conditions in Canton, Mo., the game was moved to Boots Bush Field, a neutral location in Quincy. It didn't bother the Wildcats, who fired off 32 shots, including 16 on goal. The Mustangs managed a total of five shots, four of which were on goal.
Mount Mercy freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Steffe made a remarkable 15 saves, allowing only Sergi's goal on an assist by Ally Daiber with five minutes left in the match. Mackenzie Little stopped all four shots on goal to get the shutout victory.
The Mustangs (3-8-0) travel to La Crosse, Wis., on Tuesday for a Midwest Collegiate Conference match with Viterbo (Wis.) at 1:00 p.m.
