IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Members of the Mount Mercy softball team made a road trip to Iowa City on Oct. 13 to participate in the Fifth Annual Ponseti Races to benefit research and treatment of clubfoot.

The Mustangs participated in the "9 Line Mile" in honor of the late Caroline Found, friend of sophomore infielder Brianna Sturtz. Caroline lost her life in a traffic accident in 2011.

Caroline's father, Earnest, was a colleague of Ignacio Ponseti, world-renowned orthopedic surgeon who pioneered a nonsurgical procedure that corrects clubfoot. Clubfoot, the most common physical disability in newborns, is a genetic disorder that causes the feet to turn inward and downward.

"The team joined together to support Brianna and help honor the memory of Caroline," said Mount Mercy Head Softball Coach Larry Yoder. "They had a wonderful time walking for two great causes."
