CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's basketball team built a 10-point halftime lead and cruised to the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic title with a 73-53 victory over Westminster (Mo.) on Sunday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Senior forward LaDon Singleton shared game-high honors with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds. Junior guard Jake Misener added 10 points, senior guard Markus Cocroft and freshman forward Ben Struss nine points each. Cocroft also dished out seven assists, while Struss snared a game-high eight boards.
The Mustangs (8-9) dominated Saturday's opening round contest with Illinois Tech, trouncing the Scarlet Hawks, 73-33. Junior forward Kevin Price-Majors posted a team-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Freshman forward Ben Struss joined him in double figures with 11 points. He also had a game-high seven boards.
Mount Mercy takes a season-high four-game winning streak into its final non-conference game of the season. The Mustangs visit Decorah to take on Luther on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 4:00 p.m.
