LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Mount Mercy had one of its best shooting nights of the season and cruised to its fifth straight win, 73-51, over Viterbo (Wis.) in a Midwest Collegiate Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (16-7, 5-1 MCC) converted 53.1 percent of their field goal attempts, bettered only by a 56.7 percent clip in a win over Avila (Mo.) in the second game of the season. They were also 16-of-20 (80%) from the free throw line and outrebounded the V-Hawks, 44-27.
Freshman forward Abby Herb scored 13 points to lead four Mustangs in double digits. Senior forward Amanda Frost added 12 points and six rebounds while junior guards Christa Oldham and Paige Last had 10 points apiece. Oldham also finished with six boards and a team-high three assists.
The MCC's leading scorer, Jenna Engh, had a game-high 17 points for the V-Hawks (1-21, 0-6 MCC), who had their losing streak extended to 17 games. Ally Ostrander chipped in 13 points, Sami Weaver a game-high 11 rebounds and three steals.
In the last of three straight road games, Mount Mercy travels to Des Moines on Saturday to take on AIB (5-15, 2-4 MCC) at 1:00 p.m.
