LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Trailing by three points with 4:15 to go, Viterbo (Wis.) ended the game with a 19-6 run to hand the Mount Mercy men's basketball team its fourth straight loss, 72-62, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference contest on Wednesday at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium.
Wednesday's point total was the lowest of the season for Mount Mercy (10-14, 2-4 MCC), which has averaged better than 77 points per game. The Mustangs outscored the V-Hawks (12-11, 3-3 MCC), 17-14, at the free throw line, but were outrebounded, 37-35, and committed 21 turnovers.
Junior guard Ian Matos and junior forward Kevin Price-Majors had 13 points each for Mount Mercy. Senior guard Markus Cocroft tallied 11 points, senior forward LaDon Singleton and senior guard Tajric Boggs 10 apiece. Singleton pulled down seven rebounds, Matos and Boggs each had four steals.
Viterbo got a game-high 20 points from Jake Bamke and 15 points and seven rebounds from David Shepard. Cole Lewis added 11 points and 12 boards, Alex Diciaula 10 points. Matt Turba and Jasper Duberry collected four assists and four steals apiece.
The Mustangs are on the road for the third straight game on Saturday, heading to Des Moines to face AIB at 3:00 p.m.
