CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's basketball team dealt St. Ambrose its second loss in Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday night, pounding the league-leading Bees, 88-71, at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Both of the Bees' conference losses have been to the Mustangs, who defeated then-22nd-ranked St. Ambrose, 83-72, on Jan. 8 in Davenport. Mount Mercy knocked down 11 3-pointers and outrebounded the Bees, 48-39, in Wednesday's victory. That snapped a five-game losing streak for the Mustangs.
Junior guard John Johnson's four treys and 19 points led the way for Mount Mercy. Junior guard Dondre Osborne added 15 points off the bench, while junior guard Jake Misener finished with 13 points and six assists. Junior forward Kevin Price-Majors pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Nick Frazier and Tylon Deal shared game-high honors with 21 points apiece. Darren Galloway chipped in 12 points, Darian White had nine points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Up next for the Mustangs will be Clarke (15-9, 6-2 MCC), a team that's now tied with St. Ambrose atop the MCC standings. The Crusaders began Mount Mercy's losing streak with a 74-71 defeat of the Mustangs on Jan. 15 at Hennessey Rec Center.
