WAVERLY, Iowa -- Mount Mercy won its second straight tournament and senior Ryan Schrimper took medalist honors after a 5-under-par 67 in the final round of the Wartburg Spring Invitational this weekend at Centennial Oaks Golf Course.
After a six-stroke win at last weekend's Blue Top Ridge Invitational, the 20th-ranked Mustangs dominated the field this time around. They led by just two shots after a 299 during Friday's opening round, then put up a 286 on Saturday for an 18-stroke margin of victory (585-603) over Central.
Schrimper, who tied for first place at Blue Top Ridge but lost a playoff for medalist honors, opened with a 4-over-par 76 then claimed the individual title outright with today's 5-under 67. Teammate Jamie Booth was runner-up with rounds of 74 and 71 to finish at +1 for the tournament.
Two more Mustangs placed in the top 10, including juniors Jack South and Matt Schlueter. South finished sixth (75-73=148), Schlueter tied for eighth (74-76=150). Sophomore Ben Franklin (80-74=154) and senior Jonny Jones (79-75-154) tied for 16th.
Mount Mercy is at the Clarke Spring Invitational on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Eagle Ridge North Golf Course in Galena, Ill.
