CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with another ranked opponent on Saturday, but came up short against 19th-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
In a game that featured eight ties and 11 lead changes, the contest wasn't decided until the final minutes. The Mustangs led by a point after three quarters, but couldn't overcome a strong fourth period by the Ravens and fell, 59-55, at Ralph Nolan Gymnasium in Atchison, Kan.
Ashley Dolan was the only Mustang in double figures, scoring 13 points to go along with six rebounds. McKenna Sexton added nine points, Zemoria Jernigan seven. Alexis Lozano-Dobbs tallied six points and a game-high eight rebounds and four steals. Dolan, Sexton and Latasha Harmon each had two assists.
Kristen Murphy's 15 points and seven boards topped the Ravens (9-5, 8-2 Heart). She was joined in double digits by Ali Taff with 10 points. She also collected five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Haylee Beard chipped in nine points, Serena Parker eight points, six boards and five blocked shots.
Mount Mercy (7-7, 4-6 Heart) has three games in six days this week, beginning at Graceland on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Lamoni. The Mustangs host Grand View on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center then finish up the week at Peru State (Neb.) on Saturday at noon in Peru, Neb.
