Photo of Justin LeasMARION, Iowa -- Grand View overcame a two-stroke deficit after round one and was able to fend off a pair of Midwest Collegiate Conference rivals to win the Mount Mercy Spring Invitational men's golf tournament on Monday at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.

The Vikings finished with a two-day total of 585, one stroke better than St. Ambrose (586) and two strokes ahead of round one leader Viterbo (Wis.) (587). Kirkwood was fourth at 594, followed by host Mount Mercy at 633.

Derrick Meier of Viterbo was medalist after posting the two best rounds of the tournament. He opened with a 4-under-par 68, and followed that with a 6-under 66 to finish with a 10-under-par 134 final score. Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose was runner-up with an 8-under-par 136. Yousaf Khan of Grand View shot 68 and 74 to finish under par as well with a 2-under total of 142.

Senior Justin Leas was Mount Mercy's top finisher with a two-day total of 148 after rounds of 73 and 75 left him at 148. Junior Chad Worley finished at 162 (78-84), junior Ben Montgomery 163 (76-87), freshman Jon Larson 165 (82-83), and junior Trent Jordan 166 (84-82).
