CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy makes its debut at the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship today, squaring off with fourth-ranked Carroll (Mont.) in a Cramer Bracket matchu up at 3:00 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The eighth-seeded Mustangs come in with a record of 21-11, while the top-seeded Saints are 27-5 overall.
Whoever dictates the tempo will have an edge. Mount Mercy, which got into the tournament with the Heart of America Athletic Conference's host bid, ranks 18th in the nation in scoring at 84.6 points per game. They've averaged 90.6 points per game while going 7-2 in their last nine. Sharp shooting and defense have been Carroll's calling card. The Saints, regular season and tournament champions of the Frontier Conference, lead NAIA Division I in field goal percentage (53.5%) and hold opponents to 66.6 points per contest, good for seventh in the country.
