CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jamie Jimison has announced the addition of two full-time members to his coaching staff. Tad Hulst is the assistant head coach for cross country and assistant coach for track & field, while Derek Stephens will be assistant head coach for track & field. Hulst began his tenure on May 8, and Stephens' first day is May 22.
Hulst earned a bachelor of arts in communications from Calvin College (Mich.) in 2008 and achieved USATF Level I certification in 2011. He was the head men's and women's cross country and track & field coach at Iowa Wesleyan College from 2012-14, where he coordinated all aspects of recruiting, budgeting, scheduling while ensuring the academic success of student-athletes. Prior to joining the Tigers' coaching staff, Hulst was a volunteer assistant cross country and track & field coach at The University of Iowa from 2009-12.
Stephens graduated from Wartburg College in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in business administration and earned a master of arts in organizational management from Ashford University in 2011. He became USATF Level I certified in 2010 and has served as an assistant track & field coach (sprints) at Mount Mercy since 2012. Stephens has assisted with the creation and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for sprinters and hurdlers and has coached nine NAIA national qualifiers and five NAIA all-Americans.
