CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy athletic department has unveiled a new, interactive display to honor the achievements of alumni and student-athletes. The Honors Wall, located in the lobby on the first floor of Hennessey Recreation Center, showcases the Mount Mercy Athletic Hall of Fame as well as Dale Harrison Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Don McCormick Athlete of the Year honorees. This summer, it will also include NAIA all-Americans and NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
"We're extremely proud of this project because it allows us to use cutting-edge technology to showcase the athletic and academic achievements of our student-athletes, both past and present," said Director of Athletics Paul Gavin. "The fact that it's a live platform that can be viewed anywhere, anytime is what sets this apart from other types of displays."
The project, which began in the fall of 2016, was a collaboration between the athletic department and Presentations Environmental Graphic Design of Cedar Rapids. It utilizes a technology called Arreya Digital Signage Suite, which features a web-based, custom design portal that allows instant content updates. In addition to a touchscreen display in Hennessey Rec Center, the Honors Wall can be viewed on any computer and mobile device. Basically, anything with an internet connection.
"As a partner in developing the Arreya Digital Signage Suite, I knew its capabilities would be a great fit for this project and would be able to evolve with the needs of the athletic department," said Marco Nannelli '98, creative director at Presentations. "And as an alum, collaborating on the Honors Wall project was like coming full circle. Applying the skills I learned at Mount Mercy to now design and build a custom display that will serve as a landmark in the athletic department is even more rewarding than I imagined."
