DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy women's volleyball team battled hard against Clarke in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday night at the Kehl Center, but the Mustangs ultimately fell, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23).
Mount Mercy was in every set, losing by a total of seven points in the three games they lost. The stat sheet was fairly even as well. The Mustangs had an attack percentage of .218, while the Pride hit .231. Mount Mercy had 51 kills and 47 assists compared to 55 kills and 51 assists for Clarke. Each team had five service aces and five total team blocks. This was their first meeting of the season, with the rematch coming on Oct. 3 at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids.
Three Mustangs racked up double-digit kills, with Maddie Bell leading the way with 13. Olivia Coe had 11 kills and Becca Thomson 10. Alyssa Weldon and Vik Meade each finished with seven. Thomson, Weldon and Lauren Stopko recorded 15 digs apiece. Kayla Daggett just missed her second double-double of the season, tallying a career-high 44 assists and nine digs.
Mount Mercy (5-6, 0-2 Heart) has two more matches on the road before their home opener on Sept. 19 at Hennessey Recreation Center. On Friday, the Mustangs travel to Oskaloosa to take on William Penn (4-10, 0-3 Heart) at 7:00 p.m., then go to Des Moines on Saturday to face 12th-ranked Grand View (9-6, 3-0 Heart) at 2:00 p.m.
