MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- There was no rest for the weary as the 18th-ranked Mount Mercy men's golf team, which hosted the Klocke Classic over the weekend, traveled to Brown Deer Park Golf Course for the Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) Wolfpack Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The nine-team, 54-hole event in Wisconsin came on the heels of Mount Mercy's own 36-hole tournament on the weekend. In a field that featured four teams either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA top 25 poll, the Mustangs tied for fourth place with an 896 team total (299-294-303). Ninth-ranked Cardinal Stritch won the team championship at 872 (286-292-294). Thirteenth-ranked Taylor (Ind.) (297-293-297=887) was second, Marian (Ind.) (292-301-301=894) -- a team receiving votes in the poll -- finished third and Mount Mercy and Culver-Stockton (Mo.) (299-299-298=896) tied for fourth.
There were 54 golfers in the field, and the Mustangs were led by William Bruyeres with a four-over-par 217 that included rounds of 72, 70 and 75. He finished in a tie for fourth place. Matt Caulfield (74-75-74=223) tied for 12th, Ben Jones (74-77-76=227) tied for 19th, George Long (79-72-78=229) tied for 27th and Nile Happel (81-78-78=237) tied for 35th.
Mount Mercy hosts the Amana Shootout on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Amana Colonies Golf Course in Amana.
