Mount Mercy Mustang men's golf logoMARION, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's golf team hosted the Cropper Golf Classic this weekend at Hunters Ridge Golf Course, finishing 20th out of 24 teams at their only home meet of the fall season.

Junior Ross McLaughlin was the top finisher for the Mustangs, tying for 37th after rounds of 73 and 79 gave him an 8-over-par total of 152. Other Mount Mercy golfers included seniors Ben Montgomery (T53rd/80-75=155), Chad Worley (T77th/83-76=159), and Trent Jordan (T107th/88-81=169), and sophomore Jon Larson (117th/98-79=177).

William Woods (Mo.) won the tournament with a 576 team total that included rounds of 286 and 290. Illinois Wesleyan, which had the lowest single-day score of the tournament (286) on Sunday, was runner-up at 580. St. Ambrose was third at 588. Mount Mercy shot 324 and 309 for a 633 total.

The Mustangs head to Peosta for the Clarke Fall Invitational next weekend. Tournament play begins at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, and 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21.
