Photo of Ben MontgomeryPhoto of Ross McLaughlinCEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Junior Ross McLaughlin and senior Ben Montgomery carded 1-over-par 71s and tied for fourth place to lead the Mount Mercy men's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Metro Fall Classic on Thursday at Jones Golf Course.

Kirkwood won the event with a 278 team total. The Mustangs were second at 291, Coe third at 299, and Cornell fourth at 344. Kirkwood's Ned Carter and Derek McConnell shared medalist honors with 2-under-par 68s. Garrett Cross of Coe was third with an even-par 70.

Mount Mercy freshman Declan Hasson tied for eighth place with a 3-over-par 73. Freshman Sheldon Bazzell tied for 15th with a 76, seniors Trent Jordan and Chad Worley tied for 18th with rounds of 78, freshman A.J. Castro tied for 20th with a 79, and sophomore Jon Larson finished 23rd with an 81.

Next up for the Mustangs will be the Dubuque Fall Invitational Sunday-Monday in Galena, Ill. Tee times begin at noon on Sunday and 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
