The host Mustangs (7-5-5, 3-2-2 MCC) had a bunch of opportunities to take an early lead, but Grand View goaltender Darren Martin and his defense stopped them all. When the Vikings (10-4-1, 6-0-1 MCC) stepped up their pressure, sophomore keeper Nenad Simovic kept the game scoreless until Armin Mujdzic found the back of the net in the 34th minute.

Augustine Faiz added a score in the 73rd minute and it looked like Grand View had the match wrapped up. But in the 86th minute, freshman forward Enrique Cortina made good on a penalty kick to cut Mount Mercy's deficit to 2-1. The Mustangs pushed up in an attempt to force overtime, but couldn't tack on another score in the game's final four minutes.

Mount Mercy, still a front-runner to host an MCC quarterfinal, finishes up the regular season at William Penn on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa.
