CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy freshman outside hitter Brittney Thomas and junior middle blocker Jena Blint have been named to the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Conference all-conference teams, which were released by the league today.
Thomas was a first-team all-conference pick after leading Mount Mercy and finishing second in the league with 504 kills. She is the first Mustang to achieve 500 kills in a season, and is already in the top 25 on the career kills list. Thomas also had the team's best serve reception percentage (.908) and was second with 462 digs.
Blint was honorable mention all-conference this season, thanks in part to career highs in total blocks (101), digs (98), and service aces (24). Her total blocks ranked seventh in the MCC. Blint was third on the team in kills (247), while her attack percentage of .261 was also a career-high and led the Mustangs.
Grand View freshman outside hitter Devon Jensen was the 2009 MCC Player of the Year and the 2009 MCC Newcomer of the Year. Viterbo senior Heather Harelstad was the league's Libero of the Year for the third straight season, and St. Ambrose senior Lauren Aderman was the 2009 MCC Setter of the Year. Coach of the Year honors went to Grand View's Tina Carter.
