
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- For the first time since the 2009-10 preseason ranking, the Mount Mercy Mustangs are receiving votes in this week's NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The Mustangs (14-9, 7-3 MCC) have won three straight in Midwest Collegiate Conference play, including a 74-68 decision over then 17th-ranked St. Ambrose on Jan. 28 at Hennessey Recreation Center. They come in at 34th in this week's rating with 13 points. Iowa Wesleyan at 14th and Grand View at 21st are the other MCC teams in the top 25. St. Ambrose received three points in today's poll.
Hastings (Neb.) moved into the top spot this week after sitting at No. 2 in last week's ranking. Davenport (Mich.), the previous No. 1, fell to second this week. There are six teams in the top 25 that Mount Mercy has played this season. In addition to Iowa Wesleyan and Grand View, the Mustangs faced fourth-ranked Briar Cliff, 10th-ranked Black Hills State (S.D.), 12th-ranked Morningside, and 17th-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wis.).
Mount Mercy goes to La Crosse, Wis., on Wednesday to face Viterbo (Wis.) in league action at 5:30 p.m. at R.W. Beggs Gymnasium.
