MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- Two of the hottest teams in the Midwest Collegiate Conference squared off on Saturday, and when the game was over, 14th-ranked Iowa Wesleyan emerged with its winning streak intact after a 74-58 women's basketball victory over Mount Mercy.

The Tigers dominated from start-to-finish to earn their eighth straight victory. They led, 46-26, at the half and by as many as 28 points in the second period. The Mustangs had won four in a row until shooting just 32.3 percent from the field and comitting 25 turnovers on Saturday.

Iowa Wesleyan (19-7, 12-1 MCC) avenged a 58-50 loss in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 9 and maintained its one-game lead over 21st-ranked Grand View (21-6, 11-2 MCC) in the MCC. The Tigers now hold a three-game advantage over Mount Mercy (16-10, 8-4 MCC) with four regular season games to go.

Senior forward Shanda Novak posted a double-double for the Mustangs with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also had four assists. Sophomore guard Emily Greiner hit three 3-pointers and added 12 points and four assists. Junior forward Tonya Davis chipped in nine points.

Anna Jones led four Tigers in double figures with a game-high 19 points. Sheray Brown tallied 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Melanie McCreight had 14 points and four steals and Jessi Beachey 10 points and seven boards.

Mount Mercy hosts Clarke in MCC play on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center.
