Photo of Jake CareyPhoto of Keith KuenstlingCEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Led by seniors Keith Kuenstling and Jake Carey, Mount Mercy cruised past Clarke, 97-65, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference men's basketball game Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.

The Mustangs (19-8, 7-6 MCC) took a commanding 43-25 halftime advantage and never looked back, shooting almost 60 percent from the floor after the break while scoring 54 points in the second period. They also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Crusaders (5-22, 2-11 MCC), 43-25.

Kuenstling and Carey scored 13 points apiece for Mount Mercy. Kuenstling completed his fifth double-double of the year with 11 rebounds. He also had a team-high five assists. Junior guard James Henderson added 11 points and four assists, while freshman forward Chad Underwood chipped in 10 points and six boards off the Mustang bench.

Thomas Ammon and Cory Billingsley had 17 points each for Clarke. Ammon also tallied five assists and three steals. Eli Fitzsimons contributed nine points, Elliott Carr seven rebounds.

This weekend, Mount Mercy can avenge a league loss to William Penn when the Mustangs take on the Statesmen on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Penn Gymnasium. William Penn, ranked ninth in the nation at the time, defeated Mount Mercy, 95-85, on Jan. 16 in Cedar Rapids.
