Photo of Will ScholerPhoto of Ryan LopezPEOSTA, Iowa -- Senior second baseman Ryan Lopez homered and drove in five runs and junior shortstop Will Scholer hit a three-run homer in the nightcap to lead the Mount Mercy baseball team to a 9-3, 6-1 sweep of Clarke in Midwest Collegiate Conference action on Monday at A.J. Speigel Park.

Lopez hit a three-run shot to cap a six-run fourth inning in the opener, and junior right-hander Derrick Weber (5-4) scattered three earned runs and six hits over five innings for the win. Junior first baseman Jeremy Glunt was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and junior third baseman Albert Diaz and junior outfielder Sebastian Vibiano had two hits apiece for the Mustangs.

Powered by Scholer's blast, the fourth inning was pivotal in game two as well as Mount Mercy (13-19, 6-2 MCC) scored four in the frame to pull away from the Crusaders (13-12, 3-5 MCC).

Glunt collected two more hits and drove in a run for the Mustangs. Senior righty Erik Morales (3-4) went the distance, allowing just one earned run on four hits.

Mount Mercy hosts a three-game set with Grand View this weekend at Ken Charipar Field. The Mustangs and Vikings (17-13, 8-4 MCC) have a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single, nine-inning contest on Sunday, also at 1:00 p.m.
