Photo of Will ScholerCEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Senior shortstop Will Scholer drove in four runs and senior center fielder Matthew Mercier and senior right fielder Julius Frierson had three hits apiece to lead the Mount Mercy baseball team to an 11-1, seven inning victory over Waldorf on Tuesday at Ken Charipar Field.

Scholer finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and four runs batted in for the Mustangs, who ended the game early with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mercier was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored and Frierson ended up 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Junior right-hander Derrick Weber improved to 6-4 on the season with five-hit ball over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked three.

Mount Mercy hosts a three-game set with Viterbo (Wis.) this weekend. The V-Hawks (19-13-1, 9-4 MCC) are a half-game behind first-place Iowa Wesleyan (19-18, 10-4 MCC) in the league race. The Mustangs (15-21, 8-4 MCC) are a full game out of first with about three weeks to play. First pitch is 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ken Charipar Field.
