WATERLOO, Iowa -- Sixth-seeded St. Ambrose pounded out 14 hits and capitalized on five Mount Mercy errors to defeat the fifth-seeded Mustangs, 11-9, in the 2010 Midwest Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament on Friday at Riverfront Stadium.

The Bees (17-27) got five runs on seven hits in the first two innings off Mount Mercy sophomore left-hander Reinaldo Rodriguez (3-5), but the Mustangs (20-30) closed the gap to 5-3 after single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings.

Mount Mercy was within a run, 7-6, on junior first baseman Jeremy Glunt's RBI single in the seventh, but St. Ambrose scored four in the eighth to take command.  A two-run homer by senior right fielder Julius Frierson in the bottom of the eighth and a solo shot by senior catcher Rey Lopez got the Mustangs within 11-9, but they couldn't get any closer.

Frierson finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Glunt was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Senior second baseman Ryan Lopez, senior catcher Rey Lopez, and senior designated hitter Cody Koch also had RBIs for Mount Mercy.
