DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Midwest Collegiate Conference has released its all-conference honors and Gold Glove team for the 2010 baseball season. In all, 35 student-athletes, including five Mustangs, were honored by the league.
Senior center fielder Matthew Mercier and senior catcher Rey Lopez were named first-team all-conference for the second year in a row, while senior shortstop Will Scholer, senior second baseman Ryan Lopez, and junior first baseman Jeremy Glunt received all-MCC honorable mention.
Mercier was Mount Mercy's second-leading hitter with a .347 average, nine doubles, five triples, five home runs, and 28 runs batted in. He also had 19 steals and compiled a .969 fielding percentage. Rey Lopez batted .327, which included 11 doubles and five homers.
Scholer led the Mustangs in batting average (.390), doubles (14), and RBIs (37). Ryan Lopez was one of eight Mustangs to hit better than .300, posting a .302 average with six doubles and 23 RBIs. Glunt batted .324 with a team-high seven homers and was second on the squad with 35 RBIs.
Ryan Lopez was the MCC's Gold Glove second baseman for the second consecutive season. He posted a .958 fielding percentage that included eight errors in 192 chances.
