KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Nine Mount Mercy programs were named NAIA Scholar Teams, and 15 individuals earned Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards for the 2009-10 academic year, the association announced on Tuesday.

The Mount Mercy women's golf, women's volleyball, women's basketball, women's track & field, women's cross country, softball, men's cross country, women's soccer, and men's track & field squads were NAIA Scholar Teams. For a team to be considered for the award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The team GPA includes all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

Mount Mercy's Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the 2009-10 school year were volleyball's Andrea Podoll and Kallie Warnick; men's cross country and track & field's Justin Waring; men's basketball's Jake Cram; women's basketball's Shanda Novak; women's track & field's Danielle Darbyshire, Alexa Francois, Kelsey Hansen, Alyssa Maher, Beca Orvella, and Emilie Warren; and softball's Laura Baldus, Sheena Canady, and Sara Tschetter. Student-athletes receiving this honor must be nominated by their head coach, must be at least a junior academically, and maintain a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
