CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --
For the second year in a row, the Mount Mercy softball program is
hosting a youth softball tournament for 10-under, 12-under, and 14-under
age groups. This year's tournament will be on Saturday-Sunday, Sept.
25-26, at Napoleon Park in Iowa City.
The tournament is a five-game guarantee event. The purpose of the tournament is to provide the young players the opportunity to develop fundamental softball skills in a competitive environment with the encouragement of collegiate softball players.
A number of Mount Mercy players have worked as assistant high school softball coaches, and desire to continue coaching upon graduation. Therefore, the 2010 fall tournament will again feature a skills demonstration clinic where the Mount Mercy players will demonstrate certain softball skills for the young players whose teams are entered in the tournament. This demonstration clinic is provided without charge, and the Mount Mercy softball coaches will be accessible throughout the weekend for the youth team coaches to consult on softball skills and related matters.
