ASBURY,
Iowa -- Juniors Derek McConnell and Ned Carter were top-four finishers,
leading the Mount Mercy men's golf team to a runaway victory at the
season-opening Loras Invitational on Tuesday at The Meadows Golf Club.
McConnell's 3-over-par 75 was good for second place, one stroke behind medalist Derek Nicholson of Coe. Carter finished fourth with a 6-over 78. Freshman Ryan Schrimper tied for sixth with an 80, senior Ross McLaughlin tied for eighth with an 81, and junior Declan Hasson tied for 17th after an 86.
The Mustangs were first in a 12-team field, claiming the team title with a 314 total. That was 22 strokes better than the 336 put up by Coe and Dubuque. Clarke and Loras tied for fourth at 337.
