Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's golf team overcame a two-stroke deficit
after Sunday's opening round to win the Clarke Fall Classic on Monday at
Thunder Hills Golf Course.
The Mustangs trailed the host Crusaders, 304-306, after first round action, but added a 309 on the final day of the tournament for a two-stroke win over Central. Mount Mercy finished up at 615, followed by the Dutch at 617, Dubuque at 634, Clarke at 635, and Coe at 644.
Mustang junior Ned Carter tied for second place with an 8-over-par 150 that included rounds of 77 and 73. Joe Leibfried of Loras took medalist honors with rounds of 74 that gave him a 148 total. Mount Mercy junior Derek McConnell finished in a tie for seventh place at 154 (78-76), while senior Ross McLaughlin tied for 13th at 156 (74-82). Freshman Ryan Schrimper tied for 17th (77-81=158) and junior Declan Hasson tied for 22nd (83-79=162).
This weekend, the Mustangs will compete at the Bishop's/University of Dubuque Invitational. Action starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday at Eagle Ridge North Golf Course in Galena, Ill.
