GALENA, Ill. -- The Mount Mercy men's golf team moved up four spots in the final round and finished in a tie for eighth place at the Dubuque/Bishop's Invitational on Sunday at Eagle Ridge North Golf Course.

The Mustangs were 12th after opening the tournament with a 323 team total on Saturday. They improved to 313 on Sunday and jumped to eighth place at 636 along with North Park and Wisconsin-Stout. Indian Hills C.C. won the event with a two-day total of 597. Illinois Wesleyan was runner-up at 608.

Junior Derek McConnell led the Mustangs with rounds of 79 and 75 to finish in a tie for 17th place at 154. Junior Ned Carter tied for 32nd (78-80=158), freshman Ryan Schrimper tied for 50th (83-78=161), junior Declan Hasson tied for 75th (85-80=165), and senior Ross McLaughlin tied for 93rd (83-86=169).

Jason Harvey of Central was medalist in a field of 151 golfers. He wound up at 1-over-par for the tournament with rounds of 72 and 73. Steven Ihm of Indian Hills (77-71=148) was second, while Derrick Meier of Viterbo (Wis.) (74-75=149) and Dan Dawson of Indian Hills (74-75=149) placed third.

Next up for the Mustangs will be the Metro Tournament on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids.
