GALENA, Ill. -- Senior Derek McConnell fired an even-par 72 at Eagle Ridge South Golf Course to claim medalist honors and lead the Mount Mercy men's golf team to its second straight tournament title at the Clarke Spring Invitational on Thursday.
All five Mustangs who competed finished in the top 10. In addition to McConnell's even-par round, freshman Jacob Selander placed sixth with a 77, while juniors John Milne and Ryan Schlueter and freshman Jack South tied for seventh with matching 78s.
The Mustangs, who won the Ashford Invitational last week, finished at 305 for a two-stroke victory over AIB. Clarke was third (318), Loras fourth (331), Clarke II fifth (337), St. Ambrose sixth (340) and Iowa Wesleyan seventh (343).
Mount Mercy looks ahead to the Midwest Collegiate Conference Tournament this weekend. Play gets underway with 36 holes on Friday and 18 more on Saturday at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside.
