Westendorf Named Heart Athletic Trainer of the Year
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference has announced that Mount Mercy Athletic Trainer Pam Westendorf has been named the conference's Athletic Trainer of the Year.
Westendorf just wrapped up year seven at Mount Mercy, where she covers Mustang softball, and men's and women's soccer. Westendorf was instrumental in overseeing athletic training efforts for the Heart of America softball tournament, which took place at Busse Field in Cedar Rapids.
"This award means a lot! I was shocked when it was talked about me being considered and even more when I heard I would be this year's recipient," Westendorf added. "I am lucky to join the long list of the many other outstanding athletic trainers in the heart of America conference who have won this award. And to all those who continue to work extremely hard in the conference and the field to allow me to do what I love and provide the care to our student athletes, it means a lot. I wouldn't be able to continue to strive in the sports medicine profession without these wonderful athletic trainers helping pave my way. Especially to our staff here at Mount Mercy who I couldn't do this without and who have given me a nurturing environment to grow and succeed."
"My favorite part of the job is getting to meet and work with so many different athletes," Westendorf added. "It truly goes past the injury to help someone return to the sport. Each day is different and exciting all in the same way."
Known for her positive attitude, high energy, and ability to make everyone feel welcome in the athletic training room, Westendorf exemplifies the values of service and leadership within the athletic training profession. Through her dedication to student-athlete health and her commitment to supporting the broader NAIA community, Westendorf represents the highest standards of personal conduct and professional excellence recognized by the Athletic Trainer of the Year Award.
As the Heart of America Athletic Conference recipient, Westendorf will represent the conference as its nominee for the corresponding NAIA national award, with national recipients to be announced by the NAIA at a later date.
