Cheer and Dance Compete at Heart Championships as Dance Finishes Heart Runner Up
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Mount Mercy cheer and dance teams competed at the Heart of America Championships, as the dance team earned Heart of America runner up.
In the preliminary section on the dance side, they would end in third place with a score of 88.58, trailing only Grand View and Baker. However, the Mustangs would tally the second highest total score in the finals, recording an even 91 in the finals, taking home second place in the conference, trailing eventual champions Grand View, while surpassing Baker by just .22 points.
On the cheer side, the Mustangs would end prelims with a 68.18, while ending finals with a 58.35, ending in tenth.
The honors didn't stop with the dance team, as two dancers and a cheerleader earned honors of Heart of America All-Conference. On the dance team, Caitlin Lee and Emma Papesh each earned All-Conference honors, with Lee landing on the second team, and Papesh earning honorable mention. On the cheer team, Ainsley Marso earned Heart All-Conference honorable mention.
