Webb, Basala lead the charge for Mustangs
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- RoyShawn Webb and Bailey Basala combined for 51 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Mount Mercy men's basketball team to their second-straight win to open the season, an 87-63 victory over Iowa Wesleyan on Tuesday night at Ruble Arena.
A strong first half keyed Mount Mercy's win as the Mustangs outscored the Tigers (1-2), 44-23, during the game's opening period. Despite a mediocre shooting performance beyond the arc (35.3%), Mount Mercy shot 50 percent from the floor overall and outrebounded Iowa Wesleyan, 40-30, to improve to 2-0.
Webb and Basala were both 11-of-18 from the field and dished out three assists apiece. Webb finished with 26 points and five rebounds while Basala tallied 25 points and a team-high eight boards. Melvin Lee added nine points off the bench and Tyler Kelley scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Joey Brown led the Tigers with 15 points and eight rebounds. Jett Tjaden chipped in 11 points, Jaylen Washington seven, and Chris Seymore six.
Mount Mercy is at St. Ambrose on Monday at 7:00 pm before coming home to take on Briar Cliff on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7:00 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
