CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A dominant performance by RoyShawn Webb helped Mount Mercy hold on to defeat Briar Cliff, 89-84, in a non-conference men's basketball game on Wednesday night at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs (3-1) shot 59.6 percent from the floor, but were uncharacteristically quiet beyond the arc. Mount Mercy was just 3-of-13 (23.1%) from 3-point range, but that was offset by a 24-of-31 evening at the free throw line.
Webb was 11-of-13 from the field and 9-of-12 at the foul line to finish with 31 points. He also dished out five assists. Bailey Basala totaled 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. Zaire Swaby added 12 points and three assists. Melvin Lee was solid off the bench with 11 points, three boards, and five assists.
Kyle Boerhave led the Chargers (2-3) with 23 points and five rebounds. Matthew Stilwill scored 20 points and Nick Hoyt tallied 10 points off the bench.
Mount Mercy is back on the road this weekend to take on Saint Xavier on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
