FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Despite another chilly shooting night from distance, the Mount Mercy men's basketball team got the job done on the road, beating Waldorf, 80-68, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening at Hanson Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs (4-2) will have some momentum heading into the start of the Heart of America Athletic Conference schedule. They open league play on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 pm in Baldwin City, Kan., against Baker. After that, it's a home conference contest with Peru State on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Mount Mercy was just 6-of-17 (35.3%) beyond the arc against the Warriors (2-5), but were 10-of-11 (90.9%) at the free throw line while outrebounding Waldorf, 33-29. Bailey Basala topped the Mustangs with a game-high 17 points. RoyShawn Webb finished with 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Brandon Jackson also scored 14 points and Zaire Swaby tallied nine points and nine rebounds.
Quincy Minor, Jr. matched Basala's 17 points for the Warriors. Chett Helming had 16 points, Jacob Daing 11, and Bryanth Farr pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.
