Mustangs stumble in home finale, head to Evangel for Heart quarterfinal
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Mount Mercy men's basketball team suffered its third straight loss to end the regular season, falling 96-71 to Grand View in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup on Senior Day Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs (16-13, 9-10 Heart) shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) overall, including 10-of-26 from three-point range. Chris Giles led five senior starters with 15 points and five rebounds. Cole Hrubes and Anthony Horton, Jr. also scored 15 points each.
The Vikings (17-9, 12-7 Heart) shot a blistering 54 percent (34-of-63) from the floor, including 11-of-30 from downtown. Jackson Golightly led Grand View with a game-high 26 points. Ryan Miller scored 22 points to go along with four steals. Isaiah Johnson added 12 points and Dallas Bailey had a game-high eight boards.
The Mustangs earned the North Division #4 seed in the Heart Men's Basketball Championships and will face South Division #1 seed Evangel (20-8, 13-6 Heart) on Wednesday. Tipoff is unofficially scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Venerable J. Robert Ashcroft Center in Springfield, Mo.
