Yong, Mustangs runner-up at Klocke Classic
MARION, Iowa – For the second tournament in a row, Junn Yong has excelled, placing second and leading the Mount Mercy men's golf team to a runner-up finish at their home course for the Klocke Classic this past weekend.
After round one, Mount Mercy trailed Kirkwood by just five strokes. Facing stiff winds in round two, the Mustangs dropped a few strokes to stay in second at 600 (296-304). Kirkwood posted rounds of 291-290 for a total of 581 and the team win. Kirkwood's "B" team rounded at the top three at 623 (307-316).
Yong shot 4-under-par in round one which had to be finished Sunday morning due to heavy rainfall Saturday night. He followed that up with a 1-under-par round two for a total of 139 (-5). Kolby Shackelford of Kirkwood edged him out for first place with rounds of 64 and 72 to finish at 136 (-8). Joining Yong in the top 10 was Kaleb Hagge in fifth (73-76=149) and Johan Wigertz in 10th (76-76=152). Dylan Tan tied for 27th (80-81=161) and Corbin Borelli tied for 39th (79-85=164).
The Mount Mercy "B" team came in seventh with a score of 635, led by Grant Case (80-76=156) and Jacob Heit (80-76=156) who tied for 16th. Miguel Crespin was 27th (83-78=161), Evdokios Demetrios tied for 31st (79-83=162), and Juan De Olazabal Fernandez was 56th (95-84=179).
Three Mustangs also competed as individuals. Sean Hinerichsen tied for 53rd (85-88=173), Simeon Jauhiainen was 57th (86-98=184), and Diego Sequeda was 59th (99-99=198).
The Mustangs are back in action on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20 at the William Woods Fall Invite in Fulton, Mo. being played at Tanglewood Golf Course.
