Yong, Mustangs both finish fourth

ADA, Mich. - The Mount Mercy men's golf team competed in the Egypt Valley Championship hosted by 18th-ranked Taylor (Ind.) yesterday and today to gear up for the Heart of America Conference Preview at the end of the month. The Mustangs held on to finish fourth led by Junn Yong who also came in fourth.

For only the second time this fall, the tournament consisted of three 18-hole rounds. After a +6 round one, Yong capitalized on six birdies, four on the back nine, in the second round for a -2 finish and a total of 148 (+4) on the day. Yong shot 77 in the final round giving him a fourth-place finish (78-70-77=225) in the field of 63. This is the fourth time this fall Yong has finished in the top five. Joining Yong in the top ten was Kaleb Hagge who finished tied for seventh (79-75-78=232). Grant Case tied for 25th (82-81-80=243), Corbin Borelli tied for 31st (80-85-83=248), and Dominic McCain was 45th (81-85-83=254). 

After day one, Mount Mercy improved seven strokes from round one to round two, putting them in fourth. In the final round, the Mustangs matched their first round to hold off Spring Arbor (Mich.) by four strokes. Taylor won (318-299-296=913), Northwestern Ohio was second (308-301-311=920), Taylor "B" was third (310-311-314=935), Mount Mercy was fourth (318-311-318=947), and Spring Arbor was fifth (318-321-312=951). 

The Mustangs have just under two weeks off before they finish out their fall season at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Preview on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 24-25. The tournament will be played at the Preserve at Rathburn Lake in Moravia, Iowa.
